Track with Positive Incentives
Adding positive incentives can work on a subconscious level for your child to start growing out of wetting the bed. Incentives are fun and help build your child’s confidence even though he or she cannot control bladder functions while sleeping. Still, it helps the child eliminate the problem.
Using a grid or calendar, you can create a reward or incentive chart that creates a fun way for your child to earn incentives by staying dry. You can choose from a range of your child’s favorite characters to use as stickers or use stars that you can give to your child for every night that he or she stays dry. When five stickers are earned, you can give a small toy or a special treat to reward your child’s progress.
It is essential to make sure that your child feels success, so make sure that the reward is attainable. For example, if your child is wetting the bed three times a week, you may want to give a reward after achieving two stickers. The next time, you can help your child progress forward by giving a bonus when three stickers are achieved.
At first, make sure the rewards are easy and then increase with difficulty as success is achieved. Your ultimate goal is to push them closer to staying dry all the time. This is the power of positive suggestion, and it has been found to work well with many children. However, when it comes to wetting the bed, there should not be any punishment even if there is no reward for that day.
