Behavioral Changes

People who are sick simply act different. However, there are times when this is concerning. It is normal for a little one to seem fussy or more tired than usual. They may take more naps or spend more time in quiet play than is normal for them.

These changes in behavior are an easy way to tell the difference between a minor illness such as a common cold and influenza. A kid with a cold will have a cough and other symptoms but otherwise act normally. Influenza, however, will make all sufferers feel truly ill.

Some behavioral changes are normal for sick kids, especially babies and toddlers. However, it is not okay for them to be lethargic or less responsive than usual. This is a sign that your child needs medical care immediately.
