Age-Related Differences

There are several ways that children experience influenza differently than adults. First, kids often will get fever and other symptoms much more severely. In fact, very young toddlers will often get a high fever and no other symptoms. Some little ones will also get seizures as a result of the fever.

Young people also usually get different symptoms of influenza. While adults will get more body aches and upper respiratory symptoms. Kids will instead get digestive symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. They also are particularly prone to getting earaches. When youngsters do get body aches, they will often occur in their back or legs, mimicking the symptoms of growing pains.
