Con #3: Rigid Rules For Drop Off and Pick Up
Centres have an opening and closing time. No one can pick up or drop off outside of those times. This is non- negotiable. Their hours may not work for everyone. Also, if you are late picking up, most centres will charge you by the minute to have your child there past closing. Due to the fact that centres are regulated by public health, they also have very strict guidelines on illnesses and re-admission to the centre. It is very common for children to need to be symptom free without medication for AT LEAST 24 hours before they can return to the program. This can be difficult for parents who don’t have many sick days of their own or alternate care for their children (considering most children get sick much more often once in childcare).
