6 parenting trends we hope will finally die in 2019

5) Baby-bum photos

The first baby-bum photo was produced in Japan. Since then, this parenting trend has ran wild. It even has it’s own hashtag used on Instagram “pumpkinbutt”. This was cute to start with but now it seems pretty overdone. Plus, you have to be very careful with posting nude photos of your baby publicly across the internet. Also, at what age do you stop doing these photos of your baby? I have seen some toddlers posing for these bare bottom images. Are they watching an iPad while the pictures are being snapped? How else would you get a child that old to sit there long enough? And, let’s talk about the younger babes. It’s hard enough to do a diaper change without them taking off. What in the world is enticing them to just sit there for their bottom to be painted and then for the pictures themselves? Here are some reasons to consider not doing the famous baby-bum photos:

  • It HAS to be a mess. There is no way a baby is going to sit still for this entire process.
  • What kid is going to look back at social media and say “Thanks mom for putting that naked picture of me online for everyone to see”?
  • Depending on who sees the image, it could be considered pornography.
  • You don’t want an image of your child falling into the wrong hands and being used inappropriately. And, just because your profile set up as private, this doesn’t completely protect you or your images. People can hack into your bank account and steal your credit card info from the internet. I’m sure these same type of people definitely have the power to view all of your Facebook and Instagram accounts.
  • It’s completely overdone. Find something else cute to do with your baby, something unique that no-one else does.
