6. Find the Right Location

When you’re feeding your baby, the position you choose can control how many people can see you and what they can see. You’re looking for somewhere with some back support, if possible, that’s clean and near the edge of a room or a wall – this is where you will be seen by the fewest amount of people. If you’re dining out, choose the inside of a booth seat, which keeps you protected from view to all but those dining with you.

A bench or booth near planters at a mall or shopping center can offer a place to sit, and the fitting room is always an option if nothing else feels comfortable. When you’re riding the bus, picking the window seat offers more discretion as well. As it stands, though, there’s absolutely no reason for you to struggle to find a “discreet” place to breastfeed. It is something you have the legal right to do, and your child’s well being must take priority over the opinions of the uneducated.
