3. Pick Clothing That Makes You Feel Comfortable

Loose fitting, soft clothes that you already wear regularly can be a great bet for making public breastfeeding easier, because you can easily lift one side of a loose fitting tee to give baby access for nursing. The shirt’s extra fabric should keep you from feeling overexposed, and light jackets or cardigan sweaters over a loose tee can help minimize exposed skin even more. An extra layer of coverage can be provided via a snug tank top – just cut two small slits, large enough to allow breastfeeding, in the front. When you wear it under your tee, you’ll be even less exposed.

A soft flannel button-down shirt is also a great pick, as it can easily be buttoned down to allow baby to nurse and is especially good for babies who don’t like mom’s shirt touching their face. Belly bands are also another popular choice here, giving you belly coverage when you have to raise your shirt. There are also special nursing garments available which have small openings to allow breastfeeding, if you prefer.
